To improve behavioral health outcomes in Bernalillo County through innovative, cohesive and measurable programs, treatment services and supports aimed at preventing the incidence of crisis and substance use disorder. The three divisions of the Department of Behavioral Health Services are Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse, and Driving While Intoxicated.

CARE Campus Behavioral Health Services

  • Improve behavioral health outcomes in Bernalillo County through innovative, cohesive and measurable treatment services aimed at supporting individuals with behavioral health needs
  • Provide a short-term Social Model Detox program in a safe environment for individuals who require detoxification services, non-medical interventions and referrals
  • Execute the Pubic Inebriate Intervention Program (PIIP) to reduce the number of bookings by providing stabilization, observation and placement support services to public inebriates
  • Deliver Supportive Aftercare Community (SAC) program that provides clients with the opportunity to reintegrate back into the community through a structured living environment that emphasizes daily living skills and long-term management of recovery
  • Expand existing programs to meet gaps in the crisis continuum and to further develop crisis triage services through the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)

Driving While Intoxicated Programs

  • Reduce Driving While Intoxicated through high visible DWI Enforcement activities
  • Reduce the number of DWI arrests and DWI related fatalities
  • Provide substance abuse prevention to reduce risky behaviors (Adults and Youth)

Behavioral Health Initiative Programs

  • Ensure individuals with behavioral health needs are stably housed
  • Prevent substance use and severe psychiatric distress through early identification and treatment
  • Improve response to an individual in a behavioral health crisis and link them to appropriate stabilization and recovery services while minimizing involvement of the criminal justice system
  • Improve services in the community that will stabilize individuals and prevent crisis
