Accounting and Budget Department Congratulated

02/26/2019

At its Feb. 26 administrative meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners, along with the County Manager, congratulated Accounting and Budget Department employees for their continued pursuit of effective budget preparation for the citizens of Bernalillo County.

Budgeting is an important process of the government system, allowing Bernalillo County to provide goods and services in a financially practical manner and limiting the debt and cutbacks required of unorganized spending.

Starting in 1984, the Government Finance Officers Association has operated the Budget Award Program to encourage and assist government agencies to prepare excellent budget documents in line with recognized best practices.

The association judges the excellence of agency budget presentation based on the clarity of goals and strategies, accuracy of financial accounts, detail of internal operations and quality of publication.

For their outstanding work in preparing the budget biennium, the Accounting and Budget Department was proudly bestowed the association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2018/2019 fiscal year, the 15th consecutive time and 18th time overall Bernalillo County has received this honor.

The office received the award, the highest honor in governmental budgeting, beside 1,600 agencies across North America.

And for the first time, the Accounting and Budget Office also received the Special Performance Measures Recognition for its budget and recognizing the use of best practices in financial assessment, including measures that are clear, relevant, reliable and well-communicated.
