El Camino Real Trade Fair Week 3

04/22/2021
11:45 AM

The El Camino Real Trade Fair continues this weekend with cooking, arts and crafts, music and a lecture. The virtual event presented by Bernalillo County and community partners has so far reached over 3,500 Facebook users and logged over 2,300 video views. According to Facebook Insights, most people reached are in the United States (3,105) but the event is also reaching viewers in Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Australia and other countries. Top cities reached are Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Chihuahua, Jemez Pueblo, Santa Fe, Silver City and Puebla.

The series of virtual events highlights the historic trade route between Mexico City and San Juan Pueblo from 1598 to 1882. As described by the National Park Service, “this artery of commerce and travel came to be known as El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, which meant ‘royal road’ or ‘king’s highway.’ Blazed atop a network of indigenous footpaths and trade corridors that connected Mexico's ancient cultures with the equally ancient cultures of the American Southwest, this highway was the oldest of the great highways heading north. Extended by segments throughout the 16th century, it was at one time the longest road in North America.”

El Camino Real Trade Fair is happening Friday evenings and Saturday mornings through May 1, 2021 on the El Camino Real Trade Fair Facebook page. Event videos are premiered at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. on Saturdays. Participating organizations are Bernalillo County, City of Albuquerque Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House, El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail (National Park Service), Gutierrez Hubbell House Alliance and New Mexico Historic Sites.
