Bosque Chile Festival Sizzles this Saturday

The 4th annual Bosque Chile Festival is happening for one day only this Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.l is happening for one day only this Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The annual Bosque Chile Festival is a unique celebration of food, art and culture in New Mexico’s Middle Rio Grande Valley. Admission is only $5 and kids five years and under are free.

Food vendors, artisans, chef demos, poetry reading competition, kids’ activities, and music and entertainment will highlight the festival taking place at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC), 1701 Fourth St. SW.

The day begins with the Ristra Run, a 5k and 10k trek for all ages down the scenic Bosque Trail. Walk-up registration (which includes festival admission) available at 7 a.m. on the day of the event. The Ristra Run begins at 8 a.m.

The festival schedule of events and entertainment:

Friday, Aug. 16:

3- 6 p.m. Pre-registration Ristra Run packet pick-up at the NHCC

Saturday, Aug. 17:

7 a.m.        Pre-registration Ristra Run packet pick-up
                  Ristra Run walk-up registration, cost is $40/person (check or cash only, no credit cards accepted), event t-shirt not guaranteed

8 a.m.        Ristra Run begins

10:15 a.m. Short film “Cooking for Generations” & panel discussion – Wells Fargo Auditorium

11 a.m.      Leah Leyba & The Band – Entertainment Main Stage

                  Noon Poetry Readings, “Powder or Pods” – Entertainment Main Stage

                  Cooking Demo with Sarah Hartford, Hartford Square – Fountain Courtyard

1 p.m.         Burque Sol – Entertainment Main Stage
                   Chicharron Challenge People’s Choice Category Judging – Near Torreón
                   Love chicharrones? Golden tickets will be issued to only 200 attendees to judge the ‘People’s Choice’ category of the Chicharron                                 Challenge. Tickets will be available at the information/merchandise booth on the festival grounds.

1:15 p.m.     Chile Growing 101: Tips and Tricks – Wells Fargo Auditorium

 

2 p.m.           Dancing Stars Dance Studio – Entertainment Main Stage

                     Cooking Demo with Shawn Weed from The Acre Restaurant – Fountain Courtyard

 

3 p.m.           Micky Cruz – Entertainment Main Stage
 

3:15 p.m.       The Chile Kings: Fabián García and Roy Nakayama – Wells Fargo Auditorium
                      Chicharron Challenge Celebrity Judging – Near Entertainment Stage

 

4 p.m.              Cooking Demo with Izz Rivera from The Shop Breakfast & Lunch – NHCC Fountain Courtyard

 

4:30 p.m.         Chicharron Challenge winner announced – Entertainment Main Stage

 

5 p.m.               Rebecca Arscott – Entertainment Main Stage

 

All day: Vendor and Food Booths, Museum Open, Make ‘n Take Activities,

Temporary Art Installation: Soil Mural by Artist Rachel Zollinger???????

Plus, Quiet Space/Storytime and the Chile Recipe Exchange until 3 p.m.

 

6 p.m.             Event concludes. See you next year!

Festivalgoers are strongly encouraged to take the park and ride available from the Dreamstyle (aka, the PIT) Arena parking lot at no charge. Alternatively, ride share users will have designated drop-off and pick-up areas at the festival.
