Gutierrez Hubbell House Offers Suffrage Exhibit

10:12 AM

Residents looking for a fun scavenger hunt and a chance to see Bernalillo County and the Town of Bernalillo as they learn about the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution have the opportunity through the Votes for Women: A Portrait of Persistence, an outdoor exhibit created by the Smithsonian Institution.

Bernalillo County Open Space, in conjunction with the Town of Bernalillo Community Museum, invites scavenger hunters to find posters describing the women’s suffrage movement, located throughout the county.

The exhibit also shares important and accurate voting information from the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office. Together, these two resources provide a historical framework on voting rights, the importance of voting, and how to exercise the right to vote today. The full exhibit is on display outdoors at the historic Gutiérrez-Hubbell House in the South Valley. On-site parking is available from 3 p.m. to dusk for the duration of the exhibit.

This is a very unique opportunity to learn about the women’s suffrage movement which culminated with the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote,” says Gutierrez Hubbell House Site Manager Elizabeth Stone. “It’s history and a fun adventure all in one.”

More information about the exhibit and a map of the locations for the scavenger hunt can be found at:

For visitors looking to learn more, virtual programs will provide additional context and history:

The exhibit begins Saturday, Sept. 5 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 14.

The scavenger hunt and exhibit are free of charge.
