BernCo to Dedicate Mural at Animal Care and Resource Center

05/16/2019

The BernCo Animal Care Services Department will be dedicating a new mural on Friday, May 17 at the new Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center, 3001 Second Street SW at noon.

This mural is made possible by a free art program through the Harwood Art Center called Creative Roots that offers art classes to middle schools in the after school hours.

Animal Care Services and county Public Art staff gave a presentation to the students and proposed they select the newly constructed Animal Care Services facility for a mural. The youth enthusiastically approved the site.

“We are honored to receive this custom mural, ‘Connected Ecosystems’ for the Animal Care and Resource Center,” says Nan Masland, BernCo Public Arts Project Coordinator. “The theme addresses the happy relationship between animals and people. The mural, which will be added to our Betty Sabo Art Inventory, is an example of collaborative creativity. ”

This mural was created by students from Garfield and Hayes middle schools. They worked on the mural on panels at the school. After its completion, it was transported to the site for installation.
