District 2 Commissioner Quezada Leads COVID-19 Testing Effort in South Valley

Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing has been slated for the South Valley of Bernalillo County.

The testing was requested by Bernalillo County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. The test days and location will be operated in conjunction with the New Mexico Department of Health and Presbyterian Healthcare.

“Despite some of the highest positive test rates in the county, the South Valley has not had a testing site for residents,” says Bernalillo County Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada. “There’s a need, and we’re going to fill it and get South Valley residents some coronavirus testing help.”

Testing will be conducted at the Isleta Amphitheater parking lot at 5601 University, SE as follows:

  • Sunday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Aug. 24, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 25, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug 26, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

This is a public test site and anyone can get tested. Preference will be given to people exhibiting coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms; however, asymptomatic people can be tested as well. Asymptomatic means that a person is experiencing no symptoms or evidence of illness or abnormality.

“We want to continue to drive the coronavirus numbers down and the more testing we can do, the more we can identify positive cases and control the spread,” adds Commissioner Quezada.

Bernalillo County is asking those who go for a test to not create a line of cars on to University Avenue as this presents a traffic safety hazard.
