BernCo Commission Approves $100,000 Allocation to Support City Acquisition of Poole Property

Bernalillo County commissioners approved a one-time allocation of $100,000 from the county’s general fund to support the City of Albuquerque’s acquisition of the Poole Property which will now become a permanent part of the city’s open space program.

The property is located in Bernalillo County Commission District One, represented by County Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. O’Malley sponsored the proposal to help preserve the 23-acres from future development.

“I am glad the Bernalillo County Commission approved this one-time allocation to allow this property to be part of the city’s open space program,” said Commissioner Debbie O’Malley. “The property is very critical to the riparian system along the Rio Grande and for the wildlife in the area. Future generations will now be able to enjoy one of the last open space properties that was available within the city on the West Side with beautiful views of the of the bosque, the Sandias and the city.”

The Poole Property, named after one of the previous owners, is located east of Coors Boulevard, at the east end of Namaste Road, across from the Rio Grande Nature Center.

The approval passed on a 5 to 0 vote.
