Citizen Jackie Bouker Recognized by BernCo Commissioners

On Sept. 10, 2019, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners recognized Bernalillo County citizen Jackie Bouker for her leadership and tireless advocacy for the conservation of open space, and for a system of trails between open space properties to be enjoyed by future generations in our rural communities.

Jackie is an equestrian and farmer who has worked for decades on behalf of equestrians and non-motorized trail users. She has given her time to numerous land use, open space and trail planning efforts. She has served on several steering committees and actively participated in the community processes for many trail master plans.

Most recently, Jackie offered her own property for use as a conservation easement. As a result of this easement, the county is able to protect a small farm in the North Valley in perpetuity for minimal cost, rather than purchasing the property outright and having to manage it on an ongoing basis. This conservation easement program is a partnership with the Rio Grande Agricultural Land Trust, and serves as a pilot project for developing the county’s agricultural easement program, which is a critical tool for protecting agriculture and local food capacity in Bernalillo County.
