Barcelona Road Letters of Map Revision (LOMR)

Updated May 28, 2019

Almost 300 South Valley property owners received letters the week of Feb. 11, 2019, notifying them of the change in their flood zone status. For the properties removed from the floodplain, mandatory flood insurance will no longer be required for federally backed mortgages and that means a savings to those property owners.

As part of the South Valley Flood Reduction Project, the county completed a hydrologic study, the analysis of how water travels across the land’s surface to where it ponds, of a 523-acre area in the South Valley. The county applied for a federal Letter of Map Revision (a request to remap floodplain boundaries) with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and after a 90-day appeal period, the new floodplain map was formally approved and went into effect on Jan. 14, 2019.

The boundaries of the properties removed by the floodplain are Barcelona Road to the south, Isleta Drain to the west, and the Armijo Drain to the north and east. Property owners can expect to receive their notification letters by the end of the week of Feb. 11, 2019.
