Barcelona Road Storm Drain Project Phase 2

Project Scope

The Barcelona Road Storm Drain Project is a tributary of the South Valley Flood Reduction Project. This project consists of road and drainage improvements for Barcelona Road from the Armijo Drain to the Isleta Drain. Drainage Improvements will capture runoff and will connect to the Armijo Drain. Roadway improvements shall consist of bicycle lanes, curb and gutter, and sidewalk to provide a safe roadway corridor.

The first phase of the Barcelona project consisted of road and storm drain improvements from the Armijo Drain to Joe Sanchez. Also with the first phase a new sidewalk was constructed on the north side of Barcelona between Isleta Blvd and Joe Sanchez. The second phase will construct new road and storm drain improvements from Joe Sanchez to the Isleta drain including sidewalk on the north side of Barcelona. In addition, the following side roads will be reconstructed: Kingsbury Road, Wilkinson Road, La Junta Road, Vega Verde Street, and Yuma Road.

Traffic Control: La Junta will have to be closed in order to construct a new crossing at the Armijo Drain, and to construct a large manhole at the intersection of Barcelona and La Junta. Detour signs will be provided on site. Access will be provided between Barcelona and Rio Bravo by way of Del Rio Road, Coors Blvd., and Isleta Blvd.

Letters announcing that construction of the project was about to begin, were mailed out the week of Oct. 14.
