Sunport Commerce Center Design Overlay Zone (DOZ) Plan

The Bernalillo County Planning and Development Services Department is initiating a planning process to develop a Design Overlay Zone for the area located west of I-25, east of 2nd Street, north of Rio Bravo Boulevard, and generally south of Woodward (refer to map on the right). This area is being called the "Sunport Commerce Center" due to its potential for industry to develop at this location and its proximity to the Albuquerque International Sunport. This effort will result in a document with standards to be considered for approval by the Bernalillo County Commission through its public hearing process.

The purpose of the Design standards is to elevate the requirements for building and site design of properties within this area. This area is zoned for light and heavy industrial uses (M-1 and M-2 zones) and the county would like to mitigate the potentially negative impacts of these allowed uses by proposing a set of design standards that would help to create an aesthetically pleasing and attractive “industrial park” setting.

For more information about this proposed plan and/or to provide your input, please contact Elvira Lopez, Planning & Development Services Program Planner at 505-314-0384 or at ellopez@bernco.gov.
