Broadband Discussion Set for Saturday

Homes, businesses and government agencies are all in need of better internet service in the east mountain area of Bernalillo County and factors influencing service include terrain and technology.

In an effort to address this issue, a panel discussion and open conversation about challenges and efforts to achieve reliable, consistent internet service in the east mountain area will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at Los Vecinos Community Center, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Los Vecinos Community Center is located at 478 1/2 Old Hwy. 66 in Tijeras,

“Those who live outside the city limits shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality of life,” says Bernalillo County Commissioner James E. Smith. “We want to make sure that all county residents are safe and secure and proper communication through dependable internet service will help accomplish that.”

Scheduled panelists for the event are:

Manuel Gonzales – Bernalillo County Sheriff

Greg E. Perez – Bernalillo County Fire Chief

Leo Baca – N.M. Government Affairs Director at CenturyLink

Damian Donckels – Director of Engineering at AT&T

Steven Grabiel – President at Higher Speed Internet

The schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 8– 8:30 a.m. Registration and beverage service
  • 8:30– 9:50 a.m. Panel Discussion with Q&A session
  • 10 -11 a.m. Facilitated roundtable discussions
  • 11 a.m. – noon Networking session in exhibit area
