Marcos A. Gonzales is the Interim Director of Economic Development for Bernalillo County.

Marcos A. Gonzales serves as the Assistant Director for the Bernalillo County Economic Development Department. As a senior member of this team, he has co-developed a carefully crafted, multi-pronged strategy to assist area businesses which have resulted in the creation of more than 4,800 jobs and nearly a billion dollars of private investment. In this role, Marcos’ responsibilities include managing a team focused on small business development, motion picture permitting, increasing the economic vitality of the South Valley Main Street, and special events resulting in economic development activity. Further, Marcos is actively involved with assisting existing businesses and those looking to develop businesses within the county through innovative application of monies made available through property tax exemption, tax increment financing, cash grants, and tax credits. Marcos uses these strategies in combination with best practice business initiatives. He collaborates with the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Trade Alliance to provide international business opportunities for the Greater Albuquerque Area and to promote the region as a strategic location for foreign direct investment. Marcos has solid working relationships with key stakeholders and elected officials throughout the State.

Prior to joining Bernalillo County, Marcos was with the State of New Mexico’s Economic Development Department for four years. His last position was Acting Financial Development Director. His core responsibilities were providing support and developing financial strategies for business growth to entrepreneurs throughout the State.

Marcos holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Born and raised in Northern New Mexico with family ties that go back several hundred years, his career demonstrates a commitment to help build a stronger, more viable New Mexico while maintaining and promoting New Mexico’s heritage and cultural diversity. Marcos’ professional and personal goals include making New Mexico a better place today and for future generations, nurturing and developing growth now, so there will be much to harvest tomorrow.

Mayling Armijo, born in Albuquerque, has served as Director of Economic Development for Bernalillo County since 2011.

Mayling ArmijoPrior to that, she was at the State in the Economic Development Department for three years. Ms. Armijo’s earlier career included more than 10 years in the financial industry and included several years in banking as an Analyst, Banker, Lender and Branch Manager.

At Bernalillo County, she leads a team that generates solutions for debt and equity financ­ing, cash incentives and tax credit to support economic development activities to improve and foster area employ­ment opportunities while protecting taxpayers’ interests. This work also encompasses analyzing the credit worthi­ness of prospective and existing companies requesting in­centives to assist with land purchase, building improve­ments and/or infrastructure

Her educational achievements include a Bachelors of Arts from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a certificate in Commercial Credit from the Western States School of Banking. In addition, Ms. Armijo is a Navy Reserve Supply Officer.
