Bernalillo County CARE Campus Receives a CARF Three-Year Accreditation

The Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has awarded Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services a three year accreditation for the following direct care programs, at the CARE campus:

  • Crisis Stabilization Unit
  • Detoxification Program
  • Supportive After Care Program

This is the first accreditation that the international accrediting body, CARF, has given to Bernalillo County. The County has been offering mental health and substance use services for the past 15 years. These programs have made a major impact in the community, and are nationally accredited and recognized. The county looks forward to collaborating with the City of Albuquerque as they develop similar services through their new Albuquerque Community Safety Department.

“I am proud of this accreditation received by the internationally renowned accreditation commission, CARF. During my tenure as county manager it has been a great honor to see the work of our employees make a difference in the lives of our community members. Providing access to these mental health and behavioral health services at no cost to county residents is a priority. Programs offered through the Department of Behavioral Health Services have continually received national awards and recognition, and I am proud to stand behind these initiatives, and thank the staff and volunteers for their hard work,” says County Manager Julie Morgas Baca.

This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation and shows exemplary conformance to the CARF excellence standards. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has completed a rigorous peer review process. The county has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during a virtual visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1996, as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.
