County Manager Congratulates Mary Murnane and Public Works Division

10/09/2018

At its Oct. 12 administrative meeting, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners and the county manager acknowledged and congratulated Mary Murnane, director of Fleet and Facility Management, for being awarded Energy Manager of the Year for outstanding individual accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles of energy management and development, and the Public Works Division for being selected for the Corporate Energy Management award by the New Mexico Association of Energy Engineers (NMAEE) for outstanding accomplishments in developing, organizing, managing and implementing a corporate energy management program.

The NMAEE is a nonprofit professional society whose mission is to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development.

Also recognized was the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) energy project that is currently under construction and consists of LED lighting, new HVAC equipment, duct sealing, energy efficient transformers, solar photovoltaics, HVAC controls and other measures.

Additional MDC energy efficiency accomplishments include a 2012 landfill methane gas to energy project in cooperation with the City of Albuquerque and the Environmental Protection Agency and a one-megawatt system installation in 2013.

Every day, in every task, the Public Works Division Fleet and Facilities Management Department reassesses for and seeks energy efficient opportunities in its equipment and structures. Currently, the county is simultaneously undertaking solar photovoltaic systems in 13 buildings. Because where better than New Mexico can sunlight be converted into renewable energy?

Bernalillo County would therefore like to acknowledge the energy efficient achievements of the Public Works Division and the special individual recognition given to Department Director Mary Murnane for her tireless and responsible efforts toward energy sustainability.
