BernCo Offers Online Program for Seniors in Spanish

The Office of Senior and Social Services is sponsoring a new online program for Spanish speaking seniors. “Remedios y recetas caseras" is a free phone/online group for seniors 60 and over which begins Saturday, Jan. 9 and continues through April 24, 2021. The group will meet every Saturday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. MST. The sessions will be facilitated entirely in Spanish with participants sharing and discussing favorite foods, recipes, home and traditional remedies. To register, call 1-877-797-7299.

“Remedios y recetas caseras" is one of many Spanish language programs offered by Well Connected Español, a telephone and online community offering activities, education, friendly conversation, and an assortment of discussion and support groups. Bernalillo County Senior and Social Services provides health and quality of life initiatives for Bernalillo County residents to improve economic wellbeing, education, health, and family & community development. The department also addresses food insecurity, transportation barriers, and social isolation of seniors in the community. Senior lunches are available for pick up at five locations. The class topics include bed set-up and sheet composting for soil fertility as well as making soil amendments, the types of mulches and which irrigation methods are well-suited for raised beds.
