The artists at the Remarque Print Workshop organized a ‘Smashing Gloom’ Steamroller Printmaking Demo happening Friday, Sept. 4 at the Burning of Zozobra Watch Party. They will be inking and printing from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. creating beautiful large-scale works of art using traditional printmaking techniques and a steamroller!

Organized by the Remarque owners Lincoln Draper, Jessica Krichels, Mary Sundstrom, and Jessica Weybright, with lead artists Mike Kimball and Henry Morales. The Remarque Print Workshop is a resource for artists who wish to study and practice traditional printmaking techniques such as etching, gravure, monotype and relief printing. They offer affordable access to printmaking equipment and year-round classes. Remarque has won awards for its contributions to the Albuquerque art community, and it was one of the first completely non-toxic printmaking studios in the world.

Who is Zozobra?

A gigantic wooden and cloth effigy, Zozobra or ‘the gloomy one’ is one of the world's largest functioning marionettes, able to wave his arms and move his mouth to growl ominously prior to meeting his demise. His arch-enemy, the Fire Spirit, dressed in a flowing red costume and headdress, is armed with a pair of blazing torches with which to end Zozobra's reign of terror.
