Reckless Driving Incident

On October 7, 2017 at about 3:08 pm, deputies responded to an Attempt to Locate call in the area of eastbound Paseo Del Norte and Coors Blvd. The information relayed from APD was in reference to about 50 motorcycles in the area blocking traffic, driving aggressively and racing. BCSO dispatch also received a call at about 3:21 pm advising the motorcycles were in the area of Eubank Blvd and Paseo Del Norte eastbound, blocking traffic, driving aggressively and creating an unsafe driving environment.

Deputies located the disruptive motorcycles at Paseo Del Norte and Tramway Blvd traveling southbound. Deputies attempted a traffic stop at Tramway and San Bernardino. The motorcycles failed to stop and continued to drive reckless, failing to maintain their traffic lane and blocking through traffic.

Deputies disengaged their lights and sirens. According to deputies, the motorcycles completely surrounded their patrol unit and began directing what deputies know to be gang related signs in their direction. A deputy in the passenger side drew out his duty weapon, because he was in fear of an immediate and impending battery.

Deputies are attempting to gather more footage of the incident from cameras in the area. Deputies were unable to identify any license plate information, due to the motorcycles having their license plates bent up to avoid identification by law enforcement. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking anyone with information regarding the identity of this rider or about this incident. Please call detectives at 505-379-3742 with any information. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time
