Deputy Vehicles Struck During Pursuit of Reckless Driver

On September 6, 2017 at about 11:30 pm, deputies observed a vehicle driving reckless at high speeds putting the public in immediate danger in a residential area near Yucca Drive and Plano Court. A pursuit ensued as the vehicle failed to stop for deputies. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was utilized in the area of Coors Blvd and Gonzales Road. After the PIT was performed, the driver of the vehicle intentionally drove towards units and crashed into two occupied marked units. One of the deputy’s patrol unit airbags deployed causing minor injuries. The vehicle was disabled and the driver, 44-year old Adrian Lovato, was taken into custody. There was a female passenger in the offender’s vehicle who was not charged.

The deputy was transported to a local hospital. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and narcotics. One patrol vehicle received minor damage and the other was disabled due to severe damage. The driver was medically evaluated for minor injuries at a local hospital and was later booked at MDC for Aggravated Fleeing, two counts of Aggravated Battery on a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon, False Imprisonment and multiple misdemeanor charges including DWI
