Homicide Investigation

On August 13, 2017 at approximately 8:00 am deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 1700 block of Potomac Road, in reference to a shooting with one victim. The calling party contacted 911 after his son, 42-year-old Lawrence Chavez Jr., had been shot and stated the offenders had fled the scene. After deputies secured the scene, rescue attempted to revive the victim, but resuscitative efforts were not successful. The scene was secured and the Criminal Investigation Division took over the investigation.

Through investigation, a witness identified 28-year-old Angelina Weaver and 39-year-old Dale Koch, as two of the three individuals who fled the scene. A witness advised the three offenders arrived at the residence that morning to visit with Lawrence. While in the residence, at least 4 shots were fired killing Lawrence. Angelina was located at a local motel along with a male, who is believed to be the third offender that fled the scene.

At approximately 7:30pm, Detectives located Koch at a gas station in the area of Western Skies and Central Avenue. Koch fled from deputies and a pursuit was authorized. During the pursuit, Koch attempted to strike a deputy outside his vehicle who was attempting to deploy a tire deflation system. The deputy was able to take evasive action and removed himself from harm’s way without injury. About 20 minutes after the pursuit began, a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was successful and the pursuit was terminated in a residential area near Alameda and San Mateo. Koch was taken into custody and transported to UNMH with minor injuries where he was assessed and released within hours. One patrol vehicle received minor damage associated with the PIT and no other injuries or damage has been reported.

The third offender located with Angelina was found to have 4 felony warrants for his arrest and was booked at MDC. The third male’s identification is not available for release as his involvement is still under investigation. Angelina Weaver was arrested for a felony warrant for Murder and Conspiracy in relation to this incident and had an outstanding warrant for a Probation Violation. Koch was arrested for Murder, Tampering with Evidence and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer.

No suspects are believed to be outstanding at this time. Next of kin has been notified. No further information is available for release and the investigation is ongoing.
