The primary goal for social work and advocacy is to provide direct services such as crisis counseling and mediation to individuals and families experiencing social problems such as mental illness, alcohol and substance use and abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse, among others.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office currently employs two masters-level, licensed social workers for the benefit of our citizens. Together, they cover the three major area commands served by the Sheriff’s Office. As a service of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, our assistance is available to all Bernalillo County residents 100% free of charge.


Emotional support and/or giving a voice to those who need it in a variety of settings.

Speaking with other support providers on your behalf in order to create the best treatment plan and/or course of action in order to progress to your end goal in the smoothest possible way.

Assists families in skill building and problem solving issues

Meeting our clients where they are most comfortable to address problems or concerns

Assisting with the deescalation and safety of a situation with the primary goal bringing the incident to a safe and stable place. This often leads to other services and a long term working relationship with our clients.
