Animal Care Services

On Jan. 14, 2019, Bernalillo County Animal Care extended our services to offer adoptions to the residents of Bernalillo County through our new Animal Care and Resource Center.

We are an open admission animal shelter, so we can never be certain exactly what animals we will have available for adoption on any given day, so please, if you don’t find the companion animal you are looking for right away, check back often!

The new Animal Care and Resource Center is located at 3001 2nd St. SW.
For information about adopting or other services, call (505) 314-0281 or (505) 468-PETS (468-7387). Our fax number is (505) 462-9745.
Our hours are Tuesday - Saturday 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
and our pet viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Email us at animal@bernco.gov.

You can even check out what animals we have in our shelter without leaving the comfort of your home!

Studies from leading animal welfare organizations have found that there is no correlation between the amount of money someone pays for an animal and the amount of care they provide. As a result, we are offering donation based adoptions…..meaning, you decide your adoption fee!

All proceeds go to Bernalillo County's Quality of Life Community Fund, which will continue to benefit the thousands of homeless animals that come through our doors in the future.

You can also donate without adopting!  Click here to visit our donation site. Once there, scroll down to "If you have a special purpose for your donation, please let us know." Then, select Bernco Animal Care from the drop down menu.

What should you donate for an adoption?

If you are a millionaire, we will happily accept a million dollars! However, it is about the amount of love in your heart, and not the money in your bank account that makes a house a home. We will happily accept whatever you can offer. We’ve found our average adopter donates between $50 to $60.
