BernCo Commission Acknowledges Early Childhood Health Outdoors (ECHO) Program

01/14/2020

On Jan. 14, 2020, the Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners acknowledged the Early Childhood Health Outdoors program that promotes equitable access to high-quality, natural settings to promote physical activity for children in early childhood development programs. The Commission encouraged educators, parents and guardians and children themselves to get involved with the ECHO program.

The emotional and physical health of our children is of paramount concern to the residents of Bernalillo County, and Bernalillo County has a high population of underserved children who would benefit from the program.

The New Mexico Wildlife Federation works in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation to develop ECHO program activities in Bernalillo County and elsewhere in New Mexico. The program provides early childhood educators with training in how to promote outdoor learning.

The ECHO program strives to engage the entire community to enhance playgrounds and outdoor learning areas to offer children the optimum exposure to the natural world while engaging in physical activity that promotes physical health, and wellbeing.
